What Does a NanoLC Column Cost? Our Approach to Transparent Pricing
Overview: Scientific purchasing works best when researchers can quickly answer what a product costs and whether it fits their workflow. While listing prices is standard in many sectors, specialized nanoLC markets often lock pricing behind RFQs. Publishing our price book eliminates administrative email lag and prevents arbitrary price discrimination between labs.

Scientific purchasing works best when researchers can answer two questions quickly: Does this product fit my workflow, and what will it cost?

At MicrOmics Technologies, we believe column pricing should be easy to understand before you begin the purchasing process. While open pricing is standard baseline practice in general consumer and lab markets, specialized niches like nano-flow liquid chromatography (nanoLC) and high-end proteomics frequently hide costs behind 'Request a Quote' (RFQ) forms.

Why Price Visibility Actually Matters (Without the Spin)

Stripped of heavy corporate marketing spin, publishing a straightforward price book serves practical operational efficiency rather than acting as a revolutionary crusade. Specifically, upfront price visibility addresses core challenges in scientific purchasing:

  • Killing the RFQ Bottleneck: If a lab is testing a new workflow or managing tight grant schedules, waiting days for a sales rep to reply with a quote is pure friction. Upfront pricing eliminates administrative lag.
  • Preventing Price Discrimination: Hidden pricing often allows vendors to quote wildly different rates depending on who is buying—charging big pharma a massive markup while offering different terms to academic core facilities. A public price book ensures everyone sees the exact same baseline and volume tiers.

1. See the Price Before You Contact Sales

Many scientific products require researchers to request a quote before they can determine whether a product fits their budget. For standard MicrOmics columns, we take a different approach. Our published price book shows the part number, column specification, single-column price, 5-pack price, and 10-pack price for our standard and popular configurations.

For example, several of our integrated-emitter cartridge columns are priced as follows:

Column Part Number Single 5-Pack 10-Pack
75 µm × 80 mm HC1A-JBST $800 $3,800 $7,200
75 µm × 150 mm HC1A-JDST $875 $4,156.25 $7,875
75 µm × 250 mm HC1A-JFST $950 $4,512.50 $8,550
75 µm × 600 mm HC1A-JJST $1,625 $7,718.75 $14,625

Prices are listed in USD, and pack prices are shown as total pack prices.

2. Volume Discounts Are Published Too

Laboratories often purchase multiple columns for ongoing LC-MS and proteomics workflows. Instead of requiring a separate quote to determine volume pricing, MicrOmics publishes those discounts directly.

A 5-pack of columns with the same part number receives a 5% discount, while a 10-pack receives a 10% discount. The discount is applied to the configured single-column price, including selected options.

For example, an $800 column is $3,800 as a 5-pack and $7,200 as a 10-pack.

3. Other Column Configurations Have Predictable Pricing

Transparent pricing becomes even more valuable when a laboratory needs a configuration beyond the most commonly ordered columns.

Our 2026 price book provides a straightforward pricing structure for other column configurations. The calculation begins with an $800 base column price and then applies published adjustments for column ID, length, inlet configuration, and outlet configuration.

Single-column price = $800 base price + ID adjustment + length adjustment + inlet adjustment + outlet adjustment

This makes it possible to understand how a different column dimension or connection configuration affects the price before placing an order.

After the single-column price is calculated, the same published 5-pack or 10-pack discount can be applied.

4. Lead Times Should Be Transparent Too

Price is only one part of planning an experiment. Researchers also need to know when a product is likely to arrive.

MicrOmics lists a typical 1–3 day lead time for standard and popular in-stock columns. Other column options are listed with a typical 5–7 day lead time. Products ship from Utah, USA.

Providing both pricing and typical lead-time information helps laboratories plan experiments, purchasing, and inventory with fewer unknowns.

Streamlining Your Workflow & Budgeting

Researchers already have important technical decisions to make when selecting an LC column: dimensions, chromatography performance, emitter configuration, instrument compatibility, experimental requirements, and workflow design.

Finding out what a column costs should not be another technical challenge. Published pricing allows laboratories to estimate project costs earlier, compare different column configurations, plan consumables budgets, and prepare purchase requests with complete transparency.

Ultimately, transparent pricing ensures that when you contact MicrOmics, the conversation can focus immediately on the questions where our experience is most useful: choosing the appropriate column and configuration for your application.

Clear Products. Clear Pricing.

At MicrOmics Technologies, we develop nanoLC columns and related technologies for demanding LC-MS and proteomics workflows. We believe the purchasing experience should be clear as well.

Know the configuration. Know the lead time. Know the price.
